If you’re planning a trip to Liechtenstein, here is a list of our top 10 things to do in Liechtenstein. We absolutely loved our day trip to this small country and it was a day full of fun and adventure. Arguably the best way to experience Liechtenstein as a tourist is by purchasing the Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass – we’ll go over this in the post.

Before we go through our top 10 things to do in Liechtenstein, there’s a few key things to know about planning your trip!

How do you get to Liechtenstein?

Liechtenstein is a tiny country located in between Switzerland and Austria. Despite it’s small size, Liechtenstein is actually one of the leading countries by GDP per capita in the world!

If you want to visit Liechtenstein you will have to go via Switzerland or Austria, as Liechtenstein does not have a public airport.

Getting to Liechtenstien from Austria

This is the way we visited Liechtenstein as we were staying in Bregenz.

Firstly you will need to take a train from anywhere in Austria to Feldkirch station. At Feldkirch station you will transfer to a bus that will take you to Vaduz (the capital of Liechtenstein).

The busses are operated by Liemobil – Liechtenstein’s public transport company. From Feldkirch station, take the number 14 Liemobile bus. This bus takes you all the way from Feldkirch to Vaduz without needing to transfer.

However, you may have to take another numbered bus from Feldkirch and transfer at Schaanwald depending on the time of day. We found Google maps to be fairly accurate, so be sure to look it up.

You can also check the Liemobil website for bus timetables.

The bus from Feldkirch to Vaduz takes 30 minutes. However, the the closest major airport to Feldkirch is Innsbruck, which is a 2 hour train ride to Feldkirch.

Getting to Liechtenstien from Switzerland

This is the other way to get to Liechtenstein which follows the same modes of transport as the Austrian counterpart.

Most people will take a 1 hour train from Zurich to Sargans and then transfer to a Liemobil bus to Vaduz. The bus ride from Sargans to Vaduz also takes 30 minutes.

Generally speaking it is far quicker to go via Switzerland than Austria, hence why majority of visitors will take this route.

If you have bought the Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass, all public transport in Liechtenstein is free. This covers the bus rides from Sargans or Feldkirch to Vaduz, and any busses you take within Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass

In our opinion, the best (and most economical) way to explore Liechtenstein is by purchasing a Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass. This pass can be bought for a duration of 1-3 days.

The Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass allows you access to over 30 different attractions within Liechtenstein (mostly free, but some offering a price discount). There are staple attractions which are available all year long, as well as seasonal attractions which only operate in summer or winter.

Purchasing the adventure pass is easy, you can buy it online from the Liechtenstein tourism website, or you can buy it in person from the tourist centre in Vaduz. It makes more sense to buy it online if you are travelling via Feldkirch or Sardans to Vaduz since the pass covers the bus fare.

As of 2025, the cost for the adventure pass is 25 Swiss Francs for 1 day. This goes up to 29 Francs for 2 days, and 35 Francs for 3 days. Depending on which attractions you choose to see, you can easily make up the value of your pass and more within the day – especially if you are taking the bus. For example, the price for a return bus ticket from Feldkirch to Vaduz is 10.80 Francs, almost half the price of the adventure pass.

You do not have to purchase the adventure pass when visiting Liechtenstein but we think it is the best way to see the country.

All things in our top 10 list are accessible for free with the Liechtenstein All Inclusive Adventure Pass.

One important thing to keep in mind when planning your trip to Liechtenstein is that a large number of the attractions are closed on Monday!

Our top 10 things to do in Liechtenstein

1. Play Minigolf at Schaan-Vaduz

Only a short bus ride from Vaduz, if you’re up for another round of 18 we’d highly recommend playing minigolf at Schaan-Vaduz. This minigolf course is a purpose built centre where competitions and tournaments are held.

Challenge yourself and your friends to 18 holes of fun and a variety of challenging obstacles. The 18th hole is extremely difficult, I guess that’s why they say “save the best for last”.

When you’re done playing minigolf you can stop at the cafe and have a drink and a snack to refill your energy before heading to the next activity (the swimming pool at Muhleholz).

If you only have time to play minigolf at one course, we’d recommend this one. The course in Malbun was great, but the holes were not as challenging or exciting.

2. Swim at the Muhleholz outdoor pool

The Muhleholz Outdoor Pool is located directly opposite the minigolf course at Schaan-Vaduz so it’s an easy activity to do after finishing your 18 holes. The outdoor centre has a 50m pool, a range of diving boards, and 3 waterslides. They have changing and bathroom facilities, as well as plenty of seating area for you to relax.

Unfortunately the only thing missing from Muhleholz is a spa/warm water relaxation pool which would be perfect on a cold day. That being said, the pool is perfect for having a splash during the hot summer months and kids (or adults) will enjoy the waterslides.

There are other indoor pools located in Vaduz which are free to access on the adventure pass that have warmer water if that is something you’re wanting.

3. Visit the Liechtenstein Art Museum (Kunstmuseum)

The Liechtenstein Art Museum (Kunstmuseum) is located in the centre of Vaduz and is a collection of modern and contemporary art. There are various exhibits ranging from paintings, objects, sculptures, objects, and installations. The museum has a schedule of when exhibits are shown as they often rotate every 6-12 months.

The museum also offers guided tours, activities (such as drawing classes), open discussions, and even an exercise class! Once you’ve had a look at all the art, you can stop for a rest and a coffee at the front of the museum as they have their own cafe.

4. Watch a movie at Old Cinema Vaduz

In the centre of Vaduz you will find the Old Cinema. This single room cinema has been long retired from commercial showings, but shows one viewing of “Princely Moments” at 2pm daily.

The movie tells the history of the Liechtenstein royal family and takes you on a tour of the Liechtenstein Castle – which is otherwise inaccessible. The show runs for 20minutes with the primary language being German, however headsets are available at the front desk which offer translation into English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, or Mandarin.

5. Grab a free glass of wine

Did you know that Liechtenstein has a local vineyard and produces it’s own wine? The winery is owned by the Liechtenstein ruling princely family who have a history of wine in both Liechtenstein and Austria.

If you’d like to have a free glass to taste, stop by Hoi-Laden – a boutique shop that sells a range of items. The shop is located in the centre of Vaduz and is very close to the Vaduz tourist centre.

If you’re not a wine person, you do have the choice of grape juice or a local gin and tonic instead.

6. Enter the Vaduz Treasure Chamber

The Vaduz Treasure Chamber is located in the same building as the post museum. In order to enter the treasure chamber you need to get a special token from the workers at the post museum.

The chamber is filled with many rare and special gifts that have been donated to Liechtenstein. There are 150 various treasures in the chamber including paintings, weapons, crockery, and a large selection of Easter eggs.

Whilst in the chamber you are not allowed to take any photos or videos.

Our favourite item was the moon rock from the Apollo 11 mission that was gifted by Richard Nixon to Liechtenstein.

7. Play more minigolf at Alpine Minigolf Malbun

From Vaduz town centre, take a bus up to the alpine region of Malbun. Here you will be able to wonder the town whilst playing 18 holes of minigolf.

The minigolf course in Malbun follows a unique layout where holes are spread across the town so you get to see the whole town as you progress through the 18 holes.

You do have to walk a longer distance (compared to a regular course) but it’s worth the extra steps.

The minigolf course begins at the Malbun Tourist Office where you will also borrow your putter and golf ball. You will also receive a map of the holes, and a scoresheet.

8. Ride the Malbun Bergbahan (cable car)

Whilst you are still in Malbun (perhaps after playing some minigolf) be sure to take a ride on the Malbun Bergbahan (Sareis chairlift).

This cablecar operates from the centre of Malbun and takes you all the way up to Sareis which is over 2000m above sea-level. At the top of the chairlift you will have access to beautiful views of Liechtenstein, Austria, and the surrounding mountains.

Whilst at the top, be sure to visit the Sareis Bergrestaurant for a meal or snack and sit outside to enjoy the view. If you’re into hiking you can also start many hikes from Sareis.

9. Get a free Souvenir stamp

Although Liechtenstein does not have a public airport, they still have a stamp! When you visit the tourist centre, you can ask the receptionist for a free Souvenir stamp by showing them your Adventure Pass. The cost of the stamp is usually 2 francs.

Some people get the stamp directly in their passport, but we have heard stories of this invalidating the passport as it’s not an “officially recognised” stamp. To be safe, you can get the stamp on a piece of paper, diary, or any other item that you would like. A great idea is stamping a postcard and sending it back home!

10. View the stamps at the Post Museum

If you enjoy collecting stamps, you’ll have an absolute blast at the post museum. The post museum is filled with history of Liechtenstein’s stamps and you are able to view the hundreds of stamps that have been used over the years. You can even see the number very first Liechtenstein stamp!

Pull out one of the viewing windows to see stamps from various eras, and check out the special collection of postal items including uniforms and satchels. There is also the option to buy commemorative coins and stamps from the shop.

If you would like to see the Vaduz Treasure Chamber, be sure to ask the workers for a special token that allows you to enter. The treasure chamber is located just downstairs and next door to the post museum.

Our top 10 things to do in Liechtenstein Final Thoughts
